On the 21st June 1758, "the gentlemen of Hellingly" challenged "the gentlemen of Chiddingly and Chalvington" to a game of cricket – the earliest recorded account of cricket played by Hellingly. For our 250th anniversary, we have a number of events and matches lined up to celebrate, such as:-
The Hellingly Jubilee (Macmillan) Hike - a charity hike involving hitting a cricket ball all the way from Lords to Horsebridge and back again during late March and early April
Sat 21 June Hellingly v Chiddingly (Jubilee Celebration Night - including BBQ, Fireworks plus Auction Night in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support)
Sun 22 June Hellingly v Chalvington & Ripe
August Cricket Week, including:
Tue 26 Hellingly U21 v The Forty Club
Wed 27 Hellingly v The Primary Club
Fri 29 Hellingly v Old England XI
Please come along and support us and our chosen charities!
The club has grown from strength to strength over the last few years and in 2007 we entered four teams in the Parker Building Supplies East Sussex Cricket League in divisions 1, 7, 11 and 12. As from 2008, our 1st and 2nd XI's have been selected to compete in the Sussex Cricket League in division 3 (East) along with Ansty, Burgess Hill, Chiddingly, Crawley, Glynde & Beddingham, Keymer & Hassocks, Lindfield, Seaford and Uckfield Anderida. Our 3rd and 4th XI's continue to play in the East Sussex Cricket League. If you are interested in playing a few games or would like to be an umpire or scorer then please get in contact. We are lucky to have qualified ECB coaches in the club and boys and girls from the local area are able to play at under 8, 11, 12, 14 and 16 age groups. If you would like to join them at Horsebridge Recreation Ground on Friday evenings throughout the summer, please go along and ask for Steve Hook (Club Welfare Officer). During the winter, we hold practice sessions from January through to April at Hailsham Community College Sports Hall - please click here to contact Steve Hook for more information.
